The varsity boys’ soccer team came up with a big win against South Cobb High School in their region match on Friday, March 15th. The game was very scrappy, with multiple fouls and cards being given on both sides. South Cobb went ahead in the first half through a free kick on the edge of the box, which went in off a rebound after being blocked by goalie Fernando Perdoma.
The Cardinals went into the second half having to come back from this deficit, but rose to the challenge superbly, as Esteban Sanchez put in a cross that was smashed home by Aristeo Alvarado. Then, in about the 80th minute, the Eagles gave up a free kick about 25 yards out. Anthony Torres stepped up to the plate, and sent a laser straight into the box which went uncontested flying into the back of the net.
There were some periods of sustained pressure by South Cobb in the last ten minutes of the game, but the cardinals were able to stand strong and keep their 2-1 win for their second region win on the bounce.
