The boys JV and varsity soccer teams claimed victories against Wheeler high school Thursday night in freezing weather. The JV boys kicked off at 5:30 and engaged in a 2-1, closely contested match that at times got ugly, with fouls and mistakes being made on both sides. The Cardinals managed to squeeze out a win thanks to goals from captain and Man of the Match Geo Luna, with Kevin Blanc also getting on the score sheet, and Mateo Myers looking dangerous throughout the game.
The varsity game began at 7:30 and the Wheeler team came storming out of the gates, catching the Cardinals by surprise. Wheeler was winning every ball, out playing Osborne all over the field, before they had a goal disallowed for offsides. Soon though, the Cardinals fell into their rhythm, passing all over the field and controlling the play. By the 25th minute the cardinals were in complete control and Raunel Galarza was able to smash a goal home from close range, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead at half time. It was more of the same after the break, with Osborne passing the ball all over the pitch and dominating possession. Captain Kevin Canales was able to complete several one-twos up the left side of the pitch before he hammered a goal home for his second of the season. The cardinals had several other chances for goals, notably from Anthony Sibrian and Kristian Ferreya. Wheeler never seemed like they were going to score in the second half, largely thanks to defensive stalwart and man of the match David Lopez.
